Independent Repair Shops See Slight Uptick in Servicing Imports in 2015 According to IMR Inc.’s Repair Shop Tracking Study

In 2015, independent repair shops increased the number of imports they serviced according IMR Inc.’s Repair Shop Tracking Study. In the fourth quarter of 2015, shops serviced 46.7 percent imports compared to 53.3 percent domestic vehicles. The year commenced with shops servicing 45.3 percent imports in the first quarter of 2015.

“Based on our Repair Shop Tracking Study, independent repair shops are slowly but surely increasing the number of import vehicles they are servicing,” said Bill Thompson, president and CEO of IMR Inc. “Our research reveals that shops reached a peak of 47.3 percent serviced in the third quarter before dropping slightly in the fourth quarter. However, compared to 2014, shops have increased the percentage of imports serviced from 45.4 in the fourth quarter of 2014 to 46.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015. We anticipate that this number will continue to climb as the number of imports on the road continues to grow.”
